Learn to Play Tri Card Poker Like a Pro
Published on: February 26, 2014
Realtime Gaming-powered online casinos have a game called Tri Card Poker. This title is also known as Three Card Poker at some online casinos, but it's essentially the same game. If you want to learn to play this game, the first thing you'll need to do is learn three-card poker hand rankings because they are different than normal poker rankings for hands. The best hand is a straight flush followed by three of a kind, straights, flushes, pairs and high card hands. There aren't as many hands to learn, but the order is anti-intuitive if you're already familiar with five-card hand rankings.
The way that Tri Card Poker works is that you make a bet called an ante, and then you are dealt three cards. From this point, you have to decide whether you want to fold or put in a raise. Folding means that you give up your cards and all chances of winning. However, if you raise, then you get to put in another bet that's the same size as the ante, and your hand will be compared to the dealer's hand to see who wins. The dealer has to qualify with at least queen-high.
If the dealer doesn't qualify, then then you'll get a 1:1 payout on the ante with a push on the raise. However, if the dealer does qualify, then you have several ways to get paid. First off is the ante bonus which is paid for any hand that's a straight or higher, and you'll get this payout even if your hand loses. Second is the payout for beating the dealer, if you do beat the dealer, which is 1:1 on both the ante and the raise bets. Having multiple ways to win increases the action in this game.
Strategy in Tri Card Poker centers around deciding which hands to raise and which hands to fold. A lot of people tend to either always raise or raise with only queen-high or better like the dealer does. Raising with all hands is a terrible strategy that gives the house an advantage of more than seven percent. Raising with queen-high or better isn't quite as bad with a house advantage of about 3.5 percent, but it's not the best way to play. You should actually raise with all hands that are queen-six-four-high or better and fold with everything worse. This gives you the best payout rate possible.
