Multi-Hand Video Poker Strategy

Published on: May 31, 2016

As many players have noticed, there are different video poker variations that are available. With leading software developers crating exciting games, a number of variations can be played in a multi-hand format. This will allow players to play as many as 100 hands of the game and increase their chances of collecting multiple payouts. When playing video poker as a multi-hand game, many players believe they need a different game strategy. The truth is, the strategy for the game will remain the same no matter how many hands are in play.

When a multi-hand game starts, players will choose how many hands to play. If they play 100 hands, every hand will be dealt with the same five cards. Players will then choose which cards to hold and which top discard. The new cards will be dealt, using a separate deck for every hand in play. This is where players can collect huge winnings or lose almost every hand. Unfortunately, with multi-hand games, more than half of the hands played will be losing hands.

If players are dealt a good starting hand with a pair of jacks or better, they will be in a great position to collect some handsome wins. The reason many hands end up being losing hands on a poor deal is because the variance of multi-hand games is higher than single hand games. The variance will increase as more hands are being played. This has nothing to do with the amount of money being bet, but has more to do with the strength of each hand being determined by the initial five card deal. Strong dealt hands will win more often and weak hands often lose.

When it comes to strategy, the game should be played using basic video poker strategy. The only choices players have to alter are the number of hands being played. If they want multiple chances to win, they should not always jump in for the most hands. It may be better to play 10 or 25 hands instead of 100 so the variance is not increased drastically. Players also have to strategise based on their casino budget as every hand played will cost an individual wager, making these games better suited for those with padded casino bankrolls and not so appealing to low rollers.
