Sic Bo Small and Big Bets

Sic Bo is a dice game offered at many online casinos. Some of the online gaming software providers that offer Sic Bo are Microgaming, Playtech and Realtime Gaming. The Small Bet and the Big Bet are popular bets in craps. This article discusses certain interesting aspects of these bets.

Sic Bo is played with three dice. When three dice are rolled the total of the three numbers varies from 3 to 18. The Small Bet wins when the total lies between 4 and 10 except if a triple is rolled. The Big Bet wins when the total lies between 11 and 17 except if a triple is rolled. Both bets pay even money and have a house edge of 2.78%. The house edge is the percent of the wager that the online casino expects to make in the long run. The lower the house edge the greater is the expected return to the player. These two bets are popular because the house edge of 2.78% is among the lowest house edges that any Sic Bo bet offers. This is equivalent to the house edge offered in European Roulette. Generally, in Sic Bo the bets that offer lower payouts have lower house edges.

Expert Sic Bo players follow betting patterns while wagering on the Small Bet and the Big Bet. Betting patterns do not increase the expected returns to the players. It is just that certain players feel that certain patterns are lucky for them. One common Sic Bo betting pattern is 1-3-2-4. This implies that if the player keeps on winning then he will bet $1 on the first roll, $3 on the second roll, $2 on the third roll and $4 on the fourth roll. Then he will repeat the betting pattern. When the player loses, he discontinues the sequence and starts again with $1.

The analysis of the betting pattern is as follows. If the player loses on the first roll he loses $1.00 credit. If he loses on the second roll his net loss will be $2. If he loses on the third roll his net gain will be $2. If he loses on the fourth roll his net gain will again be $2. If he wins all four bets in the sequence he will win $10. The second betting pattern is 1-3-2-6. This is a more aggressive pattern because if the player wins the first three rolls he raises the ante from $4 to $6. If the player loses on the fourth roll he breaks even but if he wins on the fourth roll then he gains $12 on the pattern.

Mathematically the Small Bet and the Big Bet are identical. Players can randomly decide on which to place the bet amount. However in practice players have their set methods of deciding between the two bets. The most common methods are betting continuously on the Small Bet, betting continuously on the Big Bet and betting alternately on the Small Bet and the Big Bet. Some players track the rolls at online casinos wagering small amounts so as to get a sense of whether the outcomes are following a streak or occurring randomly. Then they decide on how to toggle between the Small Bet and the Big Bet.
