Virtual Racing Derby Day Game

Most online gaming software providers concentrate on slots, video poker and table games. They have an Other Games section that has keno and scratch cards, but nothing else. The software provider Playtech breaks from this tradition and offers other games that are as exciting as its standard fare. Most of these games are listed under the Arcade Games category at its online casinos. A sub category of Arcade Games is Sports & Virtual Games and in that sub category is a game called Derby Day.
Derby Day is a virtual horse racing game. It simulates the betting at the race track and can be a useful learning tool for gamblers wanting to wager on horse racing at online sports books. Derby Day tries to create the virtual environment of the race tracks through a number of audio visual features. The track conditions and weather forecast are displayed on the screen. The profile of the horses and jockeys can be obtained by clicking on the horse. The profile gives the age and gender of the horse, the overall rating, the wins to competitions ratio and the positions in the last six races. Brief write up of the jockey is also provided. These do not affect the outcome of the race but add interest to the game.
After the bets are confirmed and the race started the screen shows an animated video of the race. The accompanying audio carries the sounds of the crowd cheering the horses. An overhead symbolic view helps players in tracking which horse is leading. After the race is over the score board displays the order and a screen shot of the finish position is also displayed.
Players can place wagers on five different types of bets that are identical to the bets offered at the race tracks. These bets are Winner, Exacta, Place, Show and Pick IV-V. In the Winner bet the player has to predict the horse that will win the race. In the Exacta bet players have to pick the horse that will come first and the horse that will come second. The order is important. The Place bet wins if the horse selected by the player finishes either first or second. The Show bet wins if the horse selected by the player finishes anywhere in the top three. This bet has the lowest odds. The Pick IV-V bet is the most difficult but pays out the most. Players have to name either four or five horses in the order of finishing.
Players can place multiple wagers in the Winner, Place and Show bets. In these bets the odds are displayed up front. Only one wager can be placed in the Exacta and Pick IV-V bets. In these bets the odds are displayed after the selection is made. Multiple wagers can be placed across different types of bets. When the bet amount is entered the potential payout is displayed. The player will need to confirm his bets, after which he can activate the race. The total amount wagered and won are displayed on the bottom toolbar. When the player has placed multiple wagers he can see the break up of his winnings by clicking the See Winnings button. Derby Day can be played at Playtech online casinos such as Casino Tropez, Casino Del Rio and Omni Casino.
