British Columbia had the green go light to start an online casino.  They even launched their site in July.  Unfortunately, things did not go well.  There was a glitch that shut the site down almost two hours after it began.  The glitch allowed other players to play with players cash.  About $150,000 was misused, causing quite the concern among players and those in British Columbia.

The online casino owners have had to face some tough times due to the glitch.  They were investigated for how the security breach occurred and how 12 people had their money accounts affected.  Personal information was even shared in some cases.  The company reacted quickly to the breach, once they noticed the problem.  They immediately alerted their customers to the issue as well.  Their quick action may have saved more people from being taken advantage of due to the glitch.

However, the government wanted to know how it could have happened in the first place.  They spent quite a bit of time looking into the problem, investigating how certain things were set up in security, and then looked to find a solution.

The fix was reportedly simple, at least according to company experts.  It still does not account for the initial issue.  The BC Privacy Commissioner Elizabeth Denham stated they are satisfied that the problem is fixed.  They do not see any further evidence that something will happen again.  They do want to ensure the proper policies are adhered to, as well as some controls being put in place.  There will be quite a few audits in the next few years.

The online casino is going to be watched heavily until confidence can be restored.  Despite the heavier controls being looked into the commissioner has decided to approve a re-launch.  The re-launch has yet to be announced by the online casino, but they will definitely be doing so.

They just want to make sure they can answer their players concern.  In order to get players they have to ensure they will be safe.  It is best for the company to be completely transparent about the lottery and online casino.  Hopefully, in the next few weeks they can get the public’s confidence up again.  In this way they can re-launch the casino and start helping the BC economy.  It was the main reason the corporation was approved for online casino games.
