Gambling Domain on Sale for Millions

Published on: January 11, 2011

The UK based online casino and advertising company, Media Corp has announced its intention to sell Gambling.com in one of the biggest sales of a domain name in many years.

It would appear as though nothing can stand in the way of Media Corp and the group is hoping to make millions of dollars for the much sought after domain name of www.gambling.com.  Media Corp is so certain that it will be successful in selling the domain name that it has set a reserve price of $9 million on the site.

There has already been a lot of interest shown by online gambling groups in the sale of the domain name and it has been reported that top brands such as Playtech and Bet365 have been named as having shown an interest in being potential purchasers.  There has also been interest expressed by many private equity firms as well as a few other top brands.

At present www.gambling.com runs a portal from where visitors are directed to a number of different gambling sites.  These visitors are then also presented with the latest news revolving around the gambling industry.  The new buyer will, however, be able to change all that if they so desire and endeavor to make www.gambling.com one of the most flourishing sites in the world with the use of a little originality and creativity.

The gambling site was originally purchased by Media Corp. for an amount of $20 million back in 2005 which is more than double the amount of what it expects to recover from the sale of the site right now.  The reason for this is that since then, the value of the www.gambling.com site has dropped owing to the anti-gambling regulations that were introduced in the United States in 2006 in the form of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.

Due to the fact that the true value of the www.gambling.com site is actually worth much higher than the asking price, particularly if things continue to move in the direction of pro-gambling legislation in the United States, any potential buyer of the domain name could, in fact, be snapping up a bargain.

The site is being sold by the German Sedo Holding AG on behalf of Media Corp.
