Gary Kaplan Bail Request Denied

Published on: June 17, 2007

The latest update in the BetOnSports saga is not good news for founder Gary Kaplan.  Arrested in his home in the Dominican Republic this past March, Kaplan has recently been denied his request for bail.

The request was denied by the St.Louis federal court, more specifically, Mary Ann Medler, a US magistrate.  She believes that if Kaplan is set free on bail there is a reasonable chance that he may flee. "The defendant and his family have no real ties to anywhere or to any community," says Medler.

Kaplan is facing charges that include racketeering and fraud and has submitted a ‘not guilty’ to the St Louis Court.  Contrary to Kaplans plea, the BetOnSports corporation has recently plead guilty to a charge of racketeering conspiracy and has made a deal to help prosecuters by delivering evidence against a number of former BetOnSports executives who currently facing charges.

Also facing charges is former CEO of BetOnSports, David Carruthers.  Carruthers, who was arrested nearly a year ago in a Dallas airport, awaits his trial date while reluctantly passing his days at his home under house arrest.

Stay tuned for more on the BetOnSports tale as the drama continues to unfold.
