NFL Launch may cause slowdown in Online Casinos
Published on: September 12, 2010
Anyone interested in sports betting has probably been waiting for NFL season to start up again. Betting on American Football is definitely an old fashioned past time. In the US there have been issues with online casinos in that the US doesn’t want online casinos to operate inside the US. Some states have allowed for in state sports betting online, but for the most part online casinos block US players to prevent trouble with US laws.
Still, UK players have open sports betting, which means anyone who enjoys this type of gambling can bet on NFL. Online casinos are a little concerned regarding Sunday and their ability to keep their profits up. Profits are based on how many players will be online. For those who enjoy NFL or want to make sure their bet was placed on the right team, it means they will be away from their computers and in front of the televisions.
Probably, most of the players watching the game will be those in the US, who use casinos still allowing US players. However, it is also been suggested players in the UK will be in pubs or at home watching the US games. Whatever the case, the news from online casinos reports that most likely they will be losing a bit of money on other games such as poker, while their players are watching the NFL launch for the 2010 season.
In the past there has always been a drop off of online players during the first NFL game, and throughout the season. This is only on NFL Sunday’s, but nonetheless a weekend day with a drop off is rather expensive for the online casinos.
In addition the summer months can be a little slower with more people off on holiday. Luckily online casinos do see an increase in winter due to the sports betting, though their other games may suffer. European gaming companies are also hoping that this year online gambling will be a hit, especially on the sports betting side. They feel the recovering of the global recession should help increase profits as more consumers have money to spend online. With US players still getting into the mix it has helped the European casinos stay alive. Time is going to tell whether these hopes are answered for increasing profits or if the launch weekend suffers like projections.
