Tuesday, November 4, 2008 will see a new president elected in the United States.  The last minute politicking is now taking place and both proponents of the candidates and opponents have deluged the American populace via radio and television about casino gambling.  From positive ad campaigns to negative smear campaigns, everyone is trying to get their points across and make people sway to their cause.  No matter what is said, however, most people have probably already made up their minds.

Many states across America also have some form of gambling question, proposition or referendum on their ballot for tomorrow’s election.  Ultimately the government will attempt to control online and live gambling, but tomorrow the citizens of the United States will decide whether or not casino gambling will be welcomed in their states.  Already many states have begun changing their laws regarding casino gambling, and after tomorrow many states will not have the chance to set any changes into motion.  For example, the state of Ohio has been debating about a proposed casino outside of Columbus for months now and tomorrow the casino may very well become reality.

The same has been happening in Maine, Missouri, and Colorado with heated battles over new casinos being built in the states.  And of course, with the controversy around the UIGEA, the issue of casino gambling and online gambling in the United States is a very hot issue and will continue to be even after the election is over.   

"What we are seeing is a general acceptance of casinos around the country. Once the first few states changed their laws, it opened the door for other states, and now there is a strong movement towards expanding casino laws," said Melanie Strifer, a political analyst specializing in gambling law.  Already there have been senators working towards legalizing and regulating online casinos and poker rooms, and the state of California under Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is close to coming to a resolution about legalizing online gambling.  If the state approves the resolution, they will not only make history but also set a precedence that is likely to affect the online casino and poker room industry for quite a while.

The land based casino issues in many of the states will open the doors to more online casino and poker room debates even though the entire gambling issue in the United States is still in the early stages of getting accepted across the country.
